Many travellers would swear that they get sick after every trip or holiday. Studies vary, but most show that airline carriers are formidable carriers of the common cold. A recent study found that colds may be 113 times more likely to be transmitted on a plane than during normal daily life on the ground. This guide will give you tips for staying healthy and prevent getting ill on your next flight!

TIP 1 – ALWAYS WASH YOUR HANDS

This sounds very simple, but this is the most effective way to stay healthy! If you can’t get to a bathroom frequently then carry around some antibacterial gel for in between washes! Although it has been proven that 70% of the germs hide between the fingers and under nails so make sure your washing your hands whenever you can!

(TO SUM IT UP – WASH YOUR HANDS FREQUENTLY & CARRY ANTIBACTERIAL HAND GEL!)

TIP 2 – WIPE DOWN EVERYTHING

Research suggests the filthiest places on the airplane include seat belts, air vents, toilet handles and tray tables! Make sure to purchase some anti-bacterial hand wipes and use this to wipe down all areas. Even wiping down the entertainment screens and seat pockets!

(TO SUM IT UP – WIPE DOWN EVERYTHING WITH ANTI BACTERIAL HAND WIPES)

TIP 3 – STAY HYDRATED

Airplanes have exceedingly dry air and can make you feel drowsy and fatigue by not keeping hydrated. Sipping water regularly throughout the flight may be more effective than drinking a lot of water at one time before or during the flight. You may want to purchase some Distilled Water before your flight! To purchase Distilled Water – click here.

(TO SUM IT UP – DRINK PLENTY OF WATER BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE FLIGHT)

TIP 4 – AVOID CLOGGED UP NOSE

Due to the dry air on airplanes it can not only make you feel dehydrated but can make you have a dry throat and blocked nose! To prevent the dry throat, keep drinking plenty of water but your nose is a different case! Nasal mists have been found to be very effective in keeping your nose in good health. After spritzing some nasal mist at the start of the flight, apply Petroleum Jelly White to the outside of your nostrils to act as a barrier. The product will block any germs coming your way. To purchase Petroleum Jelly White – click here.

(TO SUM IT UP – USE A NASAL SPRAY TO CLEAR NOSTRILS THEN APPLY PETROLEUM JELLY WHITE TO THE NOSTRIL TO ACT AS A BARRIER FOR GERMS)

TIP 5 – AVOID AISLE SEATS

Sitting in the aisle seat leaves you more at risk of being exposed to germs, as it puts you closer to passengers who are regularly coming and going from the restroom.

(TO SUM IT UP – DON’T SIT ON THE AISLE SEAT)

TIP 6 – USE THE AIR VENT ABOVE YOUR SEAT

While it’s common to think that turning on the air vents will recycle germs, experts say that the cabin air filters capture up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.

It is recommended turning on the vent above your head to a low or medium pressure, as it helps to create enough current to keep germs away.

(TO SUM IT UP – USE THE AIR VENT)

TIP 7 – GET PLENTY OF SLEEP

Make sure you get plenty of rest, lots of sleep, and eat healthy meals in advance of travel!

(TO SUM IT UP – GET PLENTY OF SLEEP DAYS BEFORE YOUR FLIGHT)

TIP 8 – GET HEALTHY

Building up to your flight it is important to eat healthy and exercise. If you don’t work out regularly, then working out before a flight isn’t best. However just adding some yoga or light jogging can make you feel more relaxed and help with breathing before a flight!

(TO SUM IT UP – EAT PLENTY OF VEGETABLES/FRUIT AND TRY TO DO SOME LIGHT JOGGING OR YOGA)

TIP 9 – COMFORT IS KEY

Don’t forget to pack a travel pillow to rest your neck on and a blanket to avoid getting cold on the plane!

(TO SUM IT UP – BRING A TRAVEL PILLOW AND BLANKET)
