When should you clean your makeup brushes?
It is highly recommended to clean your makeup brushes at least once a week, ensuring their cleanliness and hygiene. Focus on cleaning eye makeup brushes once a month and face brushes weekly for optimal results.
Cleaning Method – Dipping Brushes
Here are the materials you'll need:
Step 1: Pour a small amount of Isopropanol 70% into a shallow dish. Ensure the bowl is not too deep to avoid submerging the entire brush into the solution.
Step 2: Swirl the brush in the cleaning solution, taking care to keep the barrel of the brush dry. As you swirl, you'll notice makeup residue being removed, causing the solution to change colour. Continue for 10-20 seconds.
Step 3: Gently wipe the bristles on a towel. Consider using an old towel.
Step 4: In a new dish, pour a small amount of Isopropanol 70%. Dip the brush into the fresh solution and swirl again. Pat dry on a towel. Repeat until no more makeup residue is visible.
Step 5: Squeeze out any excess Isopropanol 70% and reshape the brush. Lay it flat or hang it upside down to dry. Smaller brushes will dry quickly, while larger brushes may take a couple of hours to completely dry.
Cleaning Method – Spraying Brushes
Here are the materials you'll need:
Step 1: Attach a suitable trigger spray attachment to the bottle, depending on the size of your Isopropanol 70% bottle.
Step 2: Lay your makeup brushes on an old towel and spray the bristles with the Isopropanol 70%. Ensure the bristles are fully covered by flipping the brushes to spray both sides.
Step 3: Gently wipe the brushes back and forth on an old towel. You'll notice makeup residue being removed and transferred onto the towel.
Step 4: Continue the process until no more makeup comes off the brushes. This means that all the makeup and oils have been successfully removed.
Step 5: Squeeze out any remaining Isopropanol 70%, reshape the brushes, and let them air dry. Avoid using the brushes until they are completely dry.
