Magnetic stir bars are coated magnets used to stir liquids in a sealed container. They can stir fluids without requiring an opening in the container. They are a popular way of stirring liquids in modestly sized containers. Magnetic stirrers are used in chemistry and biology research, especially in medicine.
The coating protects both the magnet itself and also the mixture it is stirring whilst also being chemically inert and easy to clean. The low friction shape and high strength of the permanent magnet helps create a powerful mixing vortex even with more viscous solutions.
Mixing liquids in an enclosed container to remove risk of contamination. Ideal for relatively smaller sized experiments in liquids of around 4 litres or less.
Commonly used in the following fields:
Shape: oval
Coating material: PTFE plastic
