What is Sulphuric acid? Sulphuric acid (alternative spelling sulfuric acid) is a highly corrosive, strong mineral acid with the molecular formula H2SO4. The historical name of this acid is oil of vitriol. It is a colourless to slightly yellow viscous liquid and is soluble in water at all concentrations. It is a diprotic acid. Sulphuric Acid 25% concentration offers a balance between strength and safety, making it easier to handle than stronger concentrations.

25% Solution: Our Sulphuric acid 25% is perfect for cleaning, and catalyst and electrolyte purposes.

High-Quality Formulation: We use only carefully sourced Sulphuric Acid and blend it with Distilled Water to ensure our customers can safely use it for any application.

No Additives: We prioritise purity, delivering only the highest quality for our customers - you can trust that our product has no preservatives or additives.

Manufactured in the UK: Our Sulphuric Acid is manufactured and bottled using non-toxic, chemical resistant bottles, providing reliable and trusted quality to our customers.

Frequent Uses:

Chemical Reactions and Synthesis

The dominant use for sulfuric acid is in the "wet method" for the production of phosphoric acid, used for manufacture of phosphate fertilizers

Industrial cleaning agent

Sulfuric acid is used in steelmaking and other metallurgical industries as a pickling agent for removal of rust and fouling.[36] Used acid is often recycled using a spent acid regeneration (SAR) plant.

Catalyst

Sulfuric acid is used for a variety of other purposes in the chemical industry. For example, it is the usual acid catalyst for the conversion of cyclohexanone oxime to caprolactam, used for making nylon. It is used for making hydrochloric acid from salt via the Mannheim process. Much H2SO4 is used in petroleum refining, for example as a catalyst for the reaction of isobutane with isobutylene to give isooctane, a compound that raises the octane rating of gasoline (petrol). Sulfuric acid is also often used as a dehydrating or oxidizing agent in industrial reactions, such as the dehydration of various sugars to form solid carbon.

Electrolyte

Sulfuric acid acts as the electrolyte in lead–acid batteries (lead-acid accumulator)

Sulphuric Acid 25% is often chosen because it provides a balance between strength and safety. Here’s why:

  • Versatility: At 25%, it’s strong enough for many industrial and laboratory applications without being as hazardous as more concentrated solutions.

  • Safety: It’s less corrosive and easier to handle compared to higher concentrations, reducing the risk of severe burns and equipment damage.

  • Cost-Effectiveness: It offers a good compromise between concentration and cost, making it suitable for a range of uses without the expense and handling complexity of more concentrated acids.
